Lithuania's Government Vice-Chancellor, Rimantas Vaitkus, who heads the coordination of refugee resettlement says that Lithuania should learn from Sweden and make it mandatory for refugees to attend language and culture lessons in exchange for benefits.

"We see that the refugees (in Sweden) are 'engaged' in the integration process – in other words, they are required to participate in every part of the process, and this determines the system of benefits and support.
So far, our agreements with refugees are rather mild and have to do with financial matters only," Vaitkus told BNS Lithuania from Sweden on Tuesday.
"We do not have a requirement for them to attend, for instance, classes or take children to kindergartens, and this is something we will have to revise shortly.”
Vaitkus said he would propose the matter for discussion at the government.
