THE RADVILA FAMILY
- 470 years ago the Radvila family, which is descended from a from Lithuanian nobleman Radvila Astikaitis (1384–1477), was granted the title of Grand Dukes of Lithuania and the current coat of arms. The continuing generation has military officers, cardinals, masons, artists and even the Queen of Poland among their ranks. The younger sister of the late First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Lee (Bouvier) Radziwill married to one of the descendants of Radvila family, however for a long time the family name – which originally means “one who finds hope” in Lithuanian – has been transformed into the Polish pronunciation of “Radziwill”.·
